Eurovision 1961 was the 6th edition of Eurovision, and was held on the 18th of March, 1961. It was the first edition of Eurovision to be broadcast on a Saturday, which is a tradition which has carried on to this day. The contest was held in France, at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, which is where the contest was held two years earlier. Jacqueline Joubert hosted the contest once again, after hosting the contest in 1959 when France also hosted.
A total of 16 nations took place, including three debut countries: Finland, Spain and Yugoslavia. No countries withdrew or returned in 1961. There were however two returning artists. Bob Benny participated for Belgium in 1959, and Nora Brockstedt, who had previously represented Norway a year earlier.
