Eurovision Union’s Chart Toppers #17

Throughout 2017, Eurovision Union was dedicated in bringing you Weekly Playlists with new music from Eurovision and National Final stars, new and old, as well as stars we’d love to see at Eurovision one day! We made so many musical discoveries, and through 2018, we want to share with you which songs we’ve been loving! Some songs will come and go, and some will stick around – here are our Eurovision Union Chart Toppers!

  1. Tesla – Capo Plaza ft. Sfera Ebbasta & DrefGold (=)

It was a close call between all of the Top 5 Chart Toppers this week, but hanging onto the top spot is this Italian rap tune. On the Italy Top 50 this song is currently in 7th place, but there are a handful of other songs from Capo Plaza and Sfera Ebbasta scattered in the Top 50, so they are definitely flavour of the month not just in my playlists!

2. Teléfono – Aitana (NEW)

Making her debut in our Chart Toppers is Aitana, the former Spanish national finalist who was close to being the Spanish Eurovision representative. Although the OT songs didn’t quite catch my attention, her debut release has certainly made up for it! Totally in love with this song!

3. La Mesa – Omar Rudberg (NEW)

As you may start to recognise, there is a bit of a Latino Pop theme running through *most* of the Top 5 here, and Omar Rudberg’s latest track fits in well with that theme! This is another killer track from the former FO&O member, and it’s good to see a strong musical direction from him.

4. Arquitectura – Mandinga (NEW)

Another Latino bop, this time coming from former Romanian Eurovision representatives Mandinga. Although they have had a line-up change since Eurovision, their sound remains faithful to their signature sound, and this track has been an unexpected but welcome addition to my playlists!

5. Que Pasa – Omar Rudberg (↓4)

Rounding out the Top 5 is another track from Omar Rudberg! This is probably my favourite of the two tracks he has released as a solo artist, but with La Mesa being new and all, it’s had a bit more airtime! Despite that, this is still one of my current favourites!

6. One Last Time – Gromee ft. Jesper Jenset (↓3)

After being left underwhelmed by the Polish Eurovision entry this year, I am surprised that I’m totally obsessed with this song. The melody, vocals and the beat of the song all connect more than Light Me Up did, and for that reason it’s still in rotation!

7. Perdonami – Salmo (↓3)

Props to Salmo for being a constant in our Chart Toppers. Although sometimes this track falls down a few spots, it always manages to bounce back. This is not just a current favourite, this is now becoming an all-time favourite!

8. Heaven On My Skin – Oscar Enestad (↓2)

This is heaven on my skin and heaven in my ears. I would consider this one of the best tracks released by a former national final star, matching the quality of the songs released by both fellow FO&O members Felix and Omar.

9. Žiūrėk Ką Padarei – Donny Montell (↓4)

Speaking of great releases, this is also one of the best new releases from a former Eurovision star. If you’re in the market for an edgy new pop number, this song is definitely for you as it ticks all the boxes. It’s going to be hard to follow this one, but I’m sure Donny will manage to back it up!

10. Dance You Off (Extended Version) – Benjamin Ingrosso (↓3)

We will be seeing a new album from Benjamin Ingrosso soon (but not soon enough!) but in the meantime, the extended version of Dance You Off is still my go-to car karaoke song! If this is the quality we will be getting with his debut album, we are in for a treat!

11. Elevate – Blissful (↓2)

Naturally this electronic number from Blissful is hanging around on our Chart Toppers! This track is catchy but not in the same way that a radio-friendly pop song would be, it’s a song that hooks you in and keeps you there.

12. Lungomare Latino – Gue Pequeno ft. Willy William (↓2)

Once upon a time our Chart Toppers was filled with a range of Italian rap songs (on the back of a trip to Italy which helped introduce me to new music!) but now as the year has progressed, only a few have remained and this is one of those tracks. It’s more a pop-rap oriented song with a nod to the Latino style we so clearly love!

13. I Wanna Fall In Love Again – Robin Bengtsson (NEW)

This is another fresh track joining the Chart Toppers party this fortnight, and it certainly is a good one. Robin proved that he can serve a good bop when needed, which is a surprise as from the title of the song I was totally expecting a slower ballad style song but oh how I was wrong!

14. (Can’t Keep Calling) Misty – Frankie Animal (↓6)

Better late than never, and although it took me a while to be introduced to this song, I’ve made up for lost time by having this song on repeat! It was a bit higher in our last Chart Toppers, pushed down by the influx of new songs to listen to, but it’s still an enjoyable listen.

15. Imprint – Felix Sandman (↓4)

There’s quite a few strong bops in our Chart Toppers this time around, but this song certainly holds its own. It’s a faster beat than Felix’s previous single, but still features a bit of that angst. Heartbreak has never sounded so good!

16. Tifældigt – Basim (↓3)

Basim once ruled our Chart Toppers, but now we’re left with one song which has probably been the most consistent. This track mixes the rap/hip-hop style I enjoy with hints of the Middle Eastern style that he used in his previous releases.

17. Rollercoaster – Emis Killa (↓1)

This track is a bit higher in the Italian charts than it is in our Chart Toppers, and admittedly it has been a bit lost in my playlists.

18. Secrets – Nathan Trent (↓4)

It has been a while since this track was released, and let’s just say we’re ready for the next one! This time around it hasn’t been as loved as it has been in previous Chart Toppers, but it’s still a great occasional listen.

19. No Reason – Erik Rapp (↓7)

When in need of a very relaxed but contemporary tune, this is certainly the go-to. Erik Rapp can do no wrong in my eyes, and this track is audio evidence of him kicking goals in his music career.

20. Ulay Nedaber – Nadav Guedj (↓3)

Although this song is once again on the verge of being pushed out of our Chart Toppers, it’s still a great occasional listen, and the thing about this song is that once you reach the incredibly good chorus, it’s hard to press the skip button.
