From a shortlist of 60 participants, Malta has significantly cut down to a total of 16 acts who will participate in the national final which will be held in only one show next year. In total, 156 songs were submitted, which then got cut down by a panel of experts in the Maltese music scene. This panel heard recordings of the songs in the presence of the composers and singers.
This is the first time that the Maltese national final will be held on one day, whereas in previous years, they featured at least two sessions, a semi-final and a final. The decision of who will represent Malta at Eurovision next year will be up to the general public.
