Eurovision World Cup: Russia vs Italy

For the duration of the actual World Cup, some of the best Eurovision artists old and new will be battling it out in a series of matches that mirror the World Cup itself. By the end, we will know the first winner of our Eurovision World Cup!

On each competition day of the World Cup, all of the matches for that day will be posted here on Eurovision Union. For a full 24 hours, a poll will be open for each match and it will be up to you to pick which of the representative songs will win the match.

Today we will feature the opening match of the Eurovision World Cup which is a fierce battle between two former winners from Russia and Italy!

Today’s Competitors:

Russia is represented by their first and only winner of Eurovision thus far, and that’s Dima Bilan. He had participated at Eurovision two years prior to his Eurovision win, where he placed 2nd with the song Never Let You Go, but the Russian Eurovision World Cup representative song is his winning entry from 2008, Believe. If you haven’t already, watch the performance below:

Italy has won Eurovision twice, the first time with Gigliola Cinquetti and the song Non ho l’età and the second winning entry, which is the competing entry for Italy in the Eurovision World Cup is Insieme: 1992 which was performed by Toto Cutugno. The song won Eurovision in 1990, so if you need to refresh your memory on the performance, check it out below:
