Greece: Maria-Eleni Kyriakou wins Eurosong 2015

This week, the Greek national final took place, where 5 songs competed in order to win the right to represent Greece at Eurovision 2015. The show was held in the Enastron Music Hall in Athens, and was hosted by popular television presenters Mairy Synatsaki and Doretta Papadimitriou.

The participants were:

  • C:REAL – Crash & Burn

  • Thomai Apergi & Legend – Jazz & Syrtaki

  • Barrice – Ela

  • Shaya Hansen – Sunshine

  • Maria-Eleni Kyriakou – One Last Breath

The voting was 50/50 jury and televote, and with the votes added up, it was revealed that Maria-Eleni Kyriakou had won with her ballad, One Last Breath. You can listen to the song below:

There were a number of special guests throughout the show, including Helena Paparizou, who won Eurovision in 2005 with her song My Number One, as well as performances from Loukas Giorkas (Greece 2011), Thanos Kalliris (member of the group Bang, 1987 Eurovision) and the group One, who represented Cyprus in 2002. From more recent times, last year’s entrant Riskykidd and Freaky Fortune sung their song Rise Up, and this year’s Cypriot representative Giannis Karayiannis presented his song One Thing I Should Have Done.

Maria-Eleni Kyriakou is of Cypriot origin, and has a successful career in Greece, even participating in Greece’s version of the Voice.
