Last night, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix took place with a total of 10 songs hoping to get Denmark out of the Eurovision rut they’ve faced in the last few years. With pressure building, Denmark as spoken, and they have now chosen their Eurovision 2017 act. The show was held in Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, and hosted by Anette Heick and Johannes Nymark, who was a part of last year’s participants Lighthouse X.
The acts competing were as follows:
Ida Una – One
Thomas Ring – Vesterbro
Rikke Gunner – Color My World
Anja – Where I Am
Calling Mercury – Big Little Lies
Anthony – Smoke in my Eyes
René Machon – Warriors
Sada Vidoo – Northern Lights
Jeanette Bonde – Hurricane
Johanna Beijbom – ASAP
There were two rounds of voting. The first round decided on the top three acts of the show, and this was decided by 50/50 jury and televote. The top three were:
Anja Nissen – Where I Am
Ida Una – One
Johanna Beijbom – ASAP
The second round of voting also featured jury voting and the public vote, and the winner of this round would go on to represent Denmark in their 60th anniversary performance. The winner of the vote was Anja Nissen! She was the favourite of the night, receiving an incredible 64% of the total vote with her song Where I Am.
Anja came second last year in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, and returned even stronger this year. She is only 21 years old, and was born and raised in Australia, with Danish heritage. In 2014, she won the third season of The Voice Australia.
