Svala collaborates with Reykjavíkurdætur on new track ‘Ekkert Drama’

When we think of former Icelandic Eurovision representative, Svala, we think a strong female vocalist. Now, Svala has teamed up with an all-female hip-hop band on the track Ekkert Drama.

Reykjavíkurdætur originate from the nation’s capital Reykjavik and began their music journey together back in 2013. The title of the group comes from the word meaning Reykjavik Daughters, and currently features no less than 11 female rap artists.

The group takes inspiration from politics and gender issues within society, including gender inequality and the empowerment of women and performs primarily in the Icelandic language, although have released some songs in English.

We know Svala from Eurovision 2017, where she represented Iceland with her electronic pop song titled Paper, however failed to qualify to the final despite a confident performance. Throughout her career, she has been a part of many different projects, with one of her latest being a collaboration with her husband under the group name Blissful however announced that she will be focusing on her solo career this year.

The collaboration between Reykjavíkurdætur and Svala is not the only release from the former Eurovision star, as she also released the song For The Night. She has also recently been signed to Sony Music Denmark, so we can expect to see new music flowing from the talented Icelandic artist.
