Georgian Idol Winner to represent nation at Eurovision 2019

After a disappointing finish for Group Iriao at the 2018 contest, Georgian broadcaster GPB have decided to change up their selection for Eurovision 2019.

It has been decided that the winner of the upcoming series of Georgian Idol will go on to represent the nation at Eurovision in Tel Aviv next May. Auditions will be held across the country for anyone over the age of 16. A total of 10 contestants will be selected by the four judges for the live shows. The program will begin broadcasting on January 1.

Georgia aren’t the only country choosing to use a national singing television program to select their Eurovision act with Malta launching the X Factor Malta in October, where the winner will also go on to compete at Eurovision for Malta. Israel and Spain will also be using longer running reality formats to select their artists and/or songs for Eurovision 2019.
