Earlier in the season, it was announced that Eden Alene would represent Israel after winning the latest season of The Next Star. Unlike previous years, the broadcaster decided to also hold a national selection for the song.
Eden Alene performed four songs, which were all previously released. The songs were:
- Saviour in the Sound
- Roots
- Rakata
- Feker Libi
The voting consisted of an online public vote, as well as a jury vote. The jury gave the most points to Roots, closely followed by Feker Libi. The public vote leaned strongly towards Feker Libi, and with the points combined, it was clear that Feker Libi would be the song representing Israel at Eurovision this year.
The song was co-written and produced by one of Israel’s most prominent musicians, Idan Raichel as well as one of Israel’s top hit makers, Doron Medalie who has previously written Eurovision songs such as Toy (2018), Golden Boy (2015) and Made of Stars (2016).
