Australian broadcaster SBS have now announced their plans for Eurovision programming this year, after the unprecedented cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest this year.
SBS plans to unite Australians to celebrate the 2020 artists and songs with the show, Eurovision 2020: Big Night In! which will premiere on Saturday 16th May at 7:30pm. Fans can vote for their favourite three nations prior to the show, and then watch as they countdown the results over a big three hours. Voting has already opened, and you can vote until Sunday May 3rd via sbs.com.au/Eurovision
The show will be hosted by Myf Warhurst and Joel Creasey, and will feature guest performances from big names across the globe. The show will also feature a performance from Montaigne, revealing for the first time how the Australian representative intended to perform her entry on stage in Rotterdam this year.
On Sunday the 17th of May at 8:30pm, SBS will broadcast a special two-hour program, Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light from the Netherlands. This show will be hosted by the three hosts intended for the 2020 contest, Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley and Jan Smit. This show will also feature the 41 songs, however in a non-competitive format.
That’s not all!
The broadcaster has planned a full week of programming, beginning on the 10th of May, where SBS VICELAND will broadcast a special show titled Road to Eurovision, which was filmed in The Netherlands back in December. The two hour program will feature this year’s hosts of Eurovision celebrating the 64 year history of the contest, with performances from 22 past winners and performers.
From Monday to Friday, SBS will be broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Finals that Australia has been featured in, 2015 – 2019.
Additionally on Saturday the 16th of May, SBS will broadcast Eurovision Top 40 Controversies at 10:30pm, then The Secrets of Eurovision afterwards.
