Anita Reviews Dennis’ 21st Century Favourite
Marco Mengoni – L’essenziale | 7th place, 126 points (Final)
Looking at the recent history of Italy at Eurovision, it was genuinely so challenging to select my own personal favourite. With that said, Dennis could have picked almost any Italian entry and there would have been a strong chance that I would be a fan. Marco Mengoni? Yep, I’m a fan. Italy has achieved some great results lately, and I think that comes down to the authenticity of the songs. The artists stay true to themselves, and this is a great example. L’essenziale is such an understated entry. The performance was very simple, but it worked so well as it put the full focus on Marco and his vocals. Also, that suit was stunning. All round, a fantastic entry from Italy.
Joshua Reviews Brandon’s 21st Century Favourite
Il Volo – Grande Amore | 3rd place, 292 points (Final)
Dramatic, epic, and unmistakably Italian. What a song. Italy has had such a strong run on entry in the past decade, and Grande Amore is definitely one of my favourites! In almost any year, I feel that this would have won. It was just bad luck that it competed in a 2015 contest that was full to the brim with high quality songs. Their voices on their own are impressive, and simply outstanding when sung in harmony. There is such a great power and drive behind this song, and it feels like it goes for far less than three minutes. Admittingly, I rarely listen to it as a studio track. However, as a live performance, it’s as good as it gets at Eurovision.
