Hallelujah! Slovenia releases Eurovision entry, ‘Amen’

In a special non-competitive version of Evrovizijska Melodija (EMA), Slovenia revealed their 2021 Eurovision entry, Amen. The show was hosted by Lea Sirk and Nejc Šmit.

Due to the cancellation of Eurovision in 2020, the Slovenian representative Ana Soklič was chosen to continue her Eurovision journey in 2021. Instead of a public selection for the song, the nation and Ana selected the song internally. There were two rounds of expert panels to determine the song that she would perform at Eurovision this year.

Speaking to Eurovision.tv, she said, ‘Amen’ is about love because love matters the most, and the message of the song is very universal. I never speak about my personal interpretation of a song because I prefer people to make their own vision of it.

My favourite part of this track is when the big choir enters… it’s like the heavens opening!’

The choral backing track was produced by Žiga Pirnat who built the choral group around Dorian Holley, a vocalist who has toured with Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart and James Taylor. The song was also composed in collaboration with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Žiga Pirnat, who wrote the music alongside Ana and Bojan Simončič. The team collaborated with lyricist Charlie Mason, who has worked on a number of Eurovision songs such as Rise Like A Phoenix, Here For You and Beauty Never Lies.
