Serbia more often than not finds themselves in the Eurovision final, with the nation boasting one win. Hoping to continue this tradition is Konstrakta, who will be performing the unique track, ‘In Corpore Sano’.

Serbia is offering an interesting act this year, a song that wasn’t really seen as a contender in the national final among fans. After the surprise win, my first reaction was that we had another song about COVID – but looking deeper into the meaning really changed my perspective. This is a creative but well written song featuring very real social criticisms.
Looking at the lyrics, they are quite blunt in their meaning, but of course, for the majority of the viewing audience, they won’t understand what the song is about. With that said, will the real message of this song get across? The nature of the song is quite monotone – this isn’t exactly the type of song that regardless of the language people will be up and dancing. However, this song also has a very catchy and memorable hook. I am in two minds about how this song will fare for that reason. Fans have grabbed onto this and it has become a fan favourite, but how will the general public and jury perceive this song?
Performance and Act
The performance is a huge part of this song. It needs to be able to convey the message of the song, but going down the route of projecting translated lyrics is not suitable for this entry. The national final staging for the song was memorable, but additionally has the potential to convey the wrong message. I myself saw this as a COVID related song with the hand washing rituals on stage, but again, looking deeper I discovered the whole story. Again, this makes me question whether this will be conveyed well on stage.
Conclusions
Based on fan reactions this is a sure qualifier, but there is a small doubt I have based on whether this will appeal to the general voters and to the jury. There is a chance that this will come across as a novelty entry, and that could be a downfall for Serbia this year. With that said, I also wouldn’t be surprised if this does exceptionally well. It’s a difficult one for me to predict.

Song and Vocals
This is one of the most meaningful and interesting songs of the year. It grows on me every time I have heard and seen it. The vocals are not outstanding, but the message of the song is strong. However, since it is in Serbian, will it be picked up at all? It is the strongest aspect of Serbia in 2022, so that is also a risk.
Performance and Act
I like the introverted performance by Serbia, since it adds up to the power and strength of the song. The risk again is though that the message about criticising the health system in Serbia does not come across this way. Maybe working with some English lines as an overlay during the performance or in the backdrop can help fix this issue?
Conclusions
Serbia is one of the entries that has high quality but it remains to be seen whether the wider audience will pick up on that given the fact that the entry is in Serbian? Within this lies the key to a good result (a.i. qualification) or a potentially top result in the final.
