Festival da Canção returns in 2023, with a new set of composers now known. The Portuguese selection will feature 20 composers, with 15 of those selected directly by broadcaster RTP. The remaining composers were selected from the public submission window.

Cláudia Pascoal represented Portugal at Eurovision in 2018 with the song ‘O jardim’.
The chosen composers may choose to sing their entries at the contest, or alternatively choose a singer to interpret their composition. The 20 competing songs will be released on January 19. The dates of Festival da Canção are as follows:
- Semi-Final 1 – February 25
- Semi-Final 2 – March 4
- Final – March 11
