2015 Reviews – Latvia – Aminata – Love Injected

Although only having four songs in the final for Supernova this year, the Latvian national final was really entertaining (thanks to Riga Biebrs). At the time, I wasn’t overly impressed with the songs, but I was hoping that Aminata would win. And she did. Her performance was powerful, mesmerising and addicting, and I’m so glad she will be bringing such a modern song to the Eurovision stage.

The song starts of quiet, but yet it captures you instantly. After the quiet verse, the chorus is like a punch in the face, it’s just full of power. I think the great thing about this song is just how different it is from anything we’ve heard at Eurovision before. This song is on par with Belgium this year, as the most modern sounding songs, and I really think that this is the direction Eurovision needs to take in the years to come.

I think the thing to watch out for with Latvia is the backing singers. They really could make or break the performance, and with Aminata pitch perfect consistently, anything off key by the backing singers will be heard immediately. I’m trusting that they won’t put on an over the top performance, and I suspect it will be similar to the national final.

I think this song is deserving of at least a top 10 position in the final, but I want it to either win, or at least come close. I love everything about this song, and I always keep coming back to listen to it again and again. I hope Europe appreciates it as much as I do, and I can’t wait to see what other musical masterpieces Aminata comes up with in the future. As such, I’m going to give this song a 10/10.
