Italy Chooses their JESC Performers

Italy debuted at Junior Eurovision in 2014, and what a debut that was, with their participant Vincenzo Cantiello taking out the win. Last weekend, RaiTV held a marathon national final to decide who would follow on from Vincenzo’s success from last year.

The show ‘Ti Lascio una Canzone’ featured a number of duels between performers, and the winners were chosen by public vote as well as a professional jury and the show’s orchestra. There were 5 duels, and therefore 5 winners of the duels, and then to even the number, a wild card was entered. The 6 remaining acts performed a medley of famous Italian Eurovision songs, including the famous Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu. Another notable performance was from Vincenzo himself.

Following all the performances, two performers remained – Giovanni Sutera Sardo and the sisters Chiara and Martina Scarpari. The public decided that the twins Chiara and Martina would win the ticket to Bulgaria for Junior Eurovision.

The 15 year old sisters are from Calabria, and have participated in the same televised singing competition as Vincenzo and Federica Falzon. The song they will perform will be written by Italian singer songwriter Gigi D’Alessio, who has also participated in San Remo Song Festival in Italy.
