The UK has decided: Lucie Jones to Eurovision!

Last night, the UK national final You Decide took place at the Eventim Apollo in London, where a total of six acts competed to win the right to represent the UK at Eurovision. This year is a special contest for the UK also, being the 60th act to represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision.

The show was presented by Mel Giedroyc, and was opened by Alexander Rybak, former Eurovision winner. There was also an expert panel featuring Bruno Tonioli Sophie Ellis-Bextor and CeCe Sammy. The six acts that performed were:

  • Olivia Garcia – Freedom Hearts

  • Holly Brewer – I Wish I Loved You More

  • Lucie Jones – Never Give Up On You

  • Danyl Johnson – Light Up the World

  • Salena Mastroianni – I Don’t Wanna Fight

  • Nate Simpson – What Are We Made Of

The voting revealed that Lucie Jones was the winner of the contest with her song Never Give Up On You. The song was co-written by none other than Emmelie de Forest, who won Eurovision back in 2013 for Denmark.

Lucie is a 25 year old singer from Pentyrch, just outside of Cardiff in Wales. She came to fame on the 6th series of the X Factor, where she reached the 5th week, however lost the vote to Jedward, who you’ll remember went on to represent Ireland at Eurovision in both 2011 and 2012. After her stint on the X Factor, she went on to feature in the West End production of Les Miserables, then later in the Chinese tour of Ghost The Musical. Lately, she has been a part of the UK tour of Rent. She has also done work on television, featuring in the shows Midsomer Murders and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
