Martina Bárta to represent Czech Republic!

Over the last few days, there have been whispers that Czech Republic had chosen their act, and it would be Martina Bárta to represent the nation. Now there is official confirmation, and it will be Martina to fly the flag in Kyiv.

Who is Martina Bárta?

She’s fairly unknown as an artist, even in her home nation, however is not indicative to her talent and what she can bring to Eurovision in May. Martina is a jazz artists, and she also plays the French Horn. At the moment, she is based in Berlin, and is part of the jazz band 4 To The Bar.

As for the song that Martina will sing in Kyiv, it is tipped to be a ballad, due to the trend set since the nation’s return in 2015. The head of the Czech Delegation Jan Bors explained that they received a number of diverse songs, however mostly ballads, and their choice was totally dependent on the quality of song. Additionally, he said that in the top 5 shortlisted songs for Martina to sing, there were no songs with Czech composers.

There are pictures published on the Czech Republic Eurovision social media page showing the recording in process, and a video will be released in accompaniment to the song. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long!

Martina has big shoes to fill after the Czech Republic made their first appearance in the final last year with Gabriela Guncíková and the song I Stand. We will have to wait and see if they can do it again in 2017!

While we wait for the song to be released, here is Martina playing with the Jazz Orchestra in Berlin:
