Rehearsal Day 1 – Albania

It’s been an action packed first day in the Eurovision arena for the first of the rehearsals, and we’ve been there to cover it all! Each day, we aim to bring an in-depth recap of the happenings of the day, including summaries and thoughts on the rehearsals of each act. Here’s the action from Day 1!

Albania

With this being my favourite song of the year, the pressure was on to get this performance right. Eugent is in a tough spot being in third place, but has the advantage of being a powerful vocalist with a powerful song wedged between Iceland and Belgium.

Visuals:

Visually, I think this performance left a lot to be desired. Eugent is joined on stage by several musicians, including guitarists, a drummer and backing vocalists. With the main focus of this song being Eugent’s vocals, I found it to be distracting to feature backing musicians especially knowing that the music isn’t played live, it’s merely just an act. As for the backing vocalists, I perhaps think they could have been kept behind, leaving Eugent on stage alone to really shine with the song. Watching through the various run throughs of the rehearsal, the staging definitely appealed to me more each time, but it definitely didn’t stand out as a clear favourite.

Costuming:

In terms of the costumes, this was also one of my favourites of the day. Admittedly my attention was solely on Eugent himself as the core artists, and his costuming was everything I could have wished for and more. It was very in tune with the rock nature of the song, but it wasn’t just a pair of leather pants. It was quite a complex outfit that on camera looked good, at least to me!

Vocals:

Vocals wise, this was one of the best of the day. Eugent is a total powerhouse, and beyond any other act today, was able to work on his vocal improvisation in order to give his performance something a little extra than his studio version song. His first run through was completely out of time, and it was off-putting as a listener, but this issue was very quickly fixed for the following run throughs.
