Eurovision World Cup: Cyprus vs Portugal

For the duration of the actual World Cup, some of the best Eurovision artists old and new will be battling it out in a series of matches that mirror the World Cup itself. By the end, we will know the first winner of our Eurovision World Cup!

On each competition day of the World Cup, all of the matches for that day will be posted here on Eurovision Union. For a full 24 hours, a poll will be open for each match and it will be up to you to pick which of the representative songs will win the match.

Today marks the first day of the Final 16 round. Over the last few weeks, we have been bringing you the Group Stage of the Eurovision World Cup, and now from each of the eight groups, only two nations have qualified into this round. Today we have two matches running across Groups A, B, C and D. The survival of your favourites is dependent on your votes, so make sure to support your favourite acts! This match is between Cyprus vs Portugal!

Today’s Competitors:

Cyprus first made their debut back in 1981, but it took until 2018 to achieve their best Eurovision result. The nation has finished in the Top 10 numerous times, but it was fan favourite Eleni Foureira who brought Cyprus closer to their first Eurovision win with the song Fuego. The song finished in 2nd place overall. Watch the performance here:

It took Portugal decades of participations at Eurovision to finally score a win, and it was Salvador Sobral who finally won the trophy for Portugal with the beautiful song Amar Pelos Dois which was written by none other than Salvador’s sister. Listen to the entry here:
