The Danish national broadcaster DR have now announced that Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will be used to select the Danish Eurovision act, however the public will now have more influence.
A total of 10 acts will be competing in the selection as in previous years, however the broadcaster will be selecting only seven of these entries directly. The remaining three entries will be chosen by the public through DR P4 radio. Nine songs will be selected by DR to play throughout January 2020 on DR Radio, and the public will be able to vote on their favourite entries. The top 3 will then advance to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. The seven entries selected by DR to directly compete in the national selection will also be released at a similar time.
The broadcaster hopes that the changed method will make the public feel more involved with the selection, and will increase enthusiasm leading up to the national selection. The broadcaster is also looking for songs that reflect the variety of Danish popular music.
The submission period is now open, and will remain open until November 1st. The final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will take place on March 7th in the Royal Arena in Copenhagen.
