Jeangu Macrooy to Represent The Netherlands on Home Soil

After a lot of speculation, the Dutch broadcaster has now put a stop to the rumours by officially announcing their competitor. Jeangu Macrooy will represent the nation on home soil, with a song yet to be revealed.

Managing director of Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS, and member of the selection committee Eric van Stade commented on the choice, saying that Jeangu Macrooy has been on their radar for quite some time. He stated, ‘The song he delivered touched us right away. We are very happy that Jeangu wants to go on this journey with us!’

Jeangu Macrooy was born in 1993 in Paramaribo, Surnaime. His interest in music grew when he received a guitar for his 13th birthday from his parents. Alongside his brother Xillan, he formed a musical duo. Jeangu’s musical ambition was strong, leading to his move to The Netherlands back in 2014. It was in The Netherlands where he met producer and composer Perquisite who signed him to the label, Unexpected Records.

Since then, Jeangu has played at several Dutch music festivals, and is a recurring guest on Dutch television programs. He has been nominated twice for an Edison Award, which is the Dutch equivalent to the Grammy Awards.

The upcoming Dutch representative also commented on his new role, saying, ‘I am indescribably honoured! It’s a dream come true and the most beautiful thing that has come my way so far. My team and I are excited to make the Netherlands proud! Let’s go!’
