Can Bonomo still remains the most recent Turkish entrant to Eurovision, having participated back in 2012 with the song ‘Love Me Back’. The song was a hit at Eurovision, finishing 7th in the final overall. Can Bonomo has gone on to have a fruitful career not just in the music scene, but also as an author.
Who is Can Bonomo?
Can Bonomo is a 34-year-old Turkish singer-songwriter, actor and poet. At the age of 17, he began his career in the music industry as a vocal productionist in Istanbul. He went on to study TV and Cinema at the Istanbul Bilgi University
The Journey to Eurovision
Prior to Eurovision, Can Bonomo was working primarily on radio and television programmes. He released his debut album titled ‘Meczup’ which featured the lead single of the same name. In the same year, he also won the 2011 Golden Butterfly Television Awards ‘Best New Artist’ Category.
Can Bonomo was internally selected to represent Turkey at Eurovision, with his song ‘Love Me Back’ also selected internally.
What Happened Next?
After Eurovision, Can Bonomo continued to release music. In 2012, he released the album Aşktan Ve Gariplikten which featured the single, ‘Ali Baba’. During 2013, he released the single ‘Kara’. To promote and share his work, he would often gather his band and stream live gigs from a band member’s house, meaning that followers from around the world could tune in to watch Bonomo and his musician friends play a bunch of songs of his albums.
In 2014, he released his next album ‘Bulunmam Gerek’, and also released his first book of poetry. The book was titled Delirmek Belirmektir.
His next studio album was titled ‘Kâinat Sustu’ and was released in 2017. His most recent album release is titled ‘Ruhum Bela’, and most recent single is titled ‘Kaplan’.
In 2016, Can Bonomo released his second book of poetry titled ‘Şu Sevdalar Tevatürü’. If that wasn’t enough, Can Bonomo also created an art exhibition titled ‘Anachronismus’ which brought together different mediums such as digital printing, illustration, oil painting and wall painting. Talk about talent!
In 2018, Can married Turkish Actress Öykü Karayel, and they recently welcomed a child.
