Spain: Four Year Agreement for Benidorm Fest

Spanish broadcaster RTVE has come to an agreement with the Generalitat Valenciana to hold four editions of Benidorm Fest.

Earlier in the Eurovision season, RTVE announced plans for a new Eurovision national final format. Benidorm Fest will take place for the first time in 2022, however a deal signed means we will see at least four editions of the contest.

Discussion surrounding the format of the show took place at a press conference. There is the potential for the results to be kept secret, only revealing the winner. This is to ensure the artists feel comfortable taking part. Confirmation of details will take place later in the season.

The submission period extends to the 10th of November. A total of 12 artists will be selected from the submissions pool. Those wishing to apply must be at least 16 years old as of May 1st 2022, and have Spanish nationality or permanent residence in Spain. Those competing in groups must have at least 50% Spanish nationality within the group.

Composers can only submit one song if they are the main author, but can submit an additional two entries if they are co-authors on a song. This rule also applies to the performers.

The semi-finals will feature six artists each, with three qualifying from each of the two semi-finals to the Grand Final. The voting will consist of a 50/50 split of jury and televoting. . The jury will consist of a national jury worth 60% and an international jury worth 40%.
