2015 Reviews – The Netherlands – Trijntje Oosterhuis – Walk Along
With the Netherlands Eurovision revival post Anouk, Eurovision fans now have high expectations from the nation which managed a highly respectable 2nd place last year. This year, we have Trijntje Oosterhuis, singing ‘Walk Along’ – but is it good enough to bring the contest back to the Netherlands?
Well, the answer is simple. No.
This song will not win the anniversary edition of Eurovision. The song itself is enjoyable, but why, why, why, why, WHY have they used SO much repetition? It feels like the song could have ended after a minute, as the rest of the time is just the same thing over and over. Yes, I suppose it’s a good thing for Eurovision, as people will remember that chorus, but even still, it seems excessive.
We’ve seen Trijntje perform the song live, and as for her vocal performance, there isn’t too much to complain about. Obviously, we haven’t seen any rehearsals for Eurovision yet, however if they choose to stage it like they did at the Voice of Holland show from late last year, audiences will be bored. She doesn’t move well on stage, and this is the type of song where the artist really needs to utilise the stage space, and runway if there is one in Vienna.
Taking all this into consideration, I’m going to give this song a 6/10.
