2015 Reviews – Ireland – Molly Sterling – Playing With Numbers

Today we look at the most successful country in Eurovision history – Ireland. Will they increase their seven wins to eight with 16 year old Molly Sterling?

Out of the songs from the National Final, Playing with Numbers was the best song, in my opinion. I think that Molly was definitely one of the better vocalists on the night, which is what gave her an edge over the other performances. The song itself is one of my favourites of this year. I think it builds well, and I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’m completely captured from the first note. Sometimes I forget how young she is, and it’s incredible how talented she is – a definite positive in her corner.

I think her performance will be similar to her National Final performance, with the piano. One thing that would be an improvement, is to dress Molly in something more age appropriate and fun, but nothing extravagant enough to take away from the song.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the song, but I truly believe this could be a dark horse. I can confidently say that I don’t think it has what it takes to bring Ireland another win, but I certainly think it will do well in the semi-final, and then in the final. It deserves a top 10 result, and it’s definitely one of the better slow songs of this year.

With that in mind, I’m going to give this a 9/10. I really enjoy this track, and I hope she gets a result that would make Ireland proud, to reinvigorate them for next year’s contest.
