This year, Azerbaijan has chosen a singer who is no stranger to the Eurovision world. Elnur Huseynov participated back in Azerbaijan’s debut performance in 2008 as part of a duo. This year, he’s back as a solo singer, with the song Hour of the Wolf. Elnur also recently won the Turkish version of the Voice television program, so we can expect fantastic vocals upon the Eurovision stage.
The song itself seems to be splitting fans – some absolutely adore this song, but there are some who have completely dismissed this song. I’m in the latter group. I never caught onto the Azerbaijan train this year, and I think it’s because I can’t really connect to the song. I find the melody to be really hard to follow, and I’ve rarely found myself wanting to listen to this song, or singing this song in my head.
I think we can automatically assume that the song will do well at Eurovision because, well, it’s Azerbaijan. In a way, I hope that if this does get into the final, it ends up lower on the table, much like last year’s song, just because I think there are so many other amazing, and more deserving songs this year.
I’m going to give this song a 5/10, and I think that’s being really quite generous.

Today, I am going to examine the song of Azerbaijan for Eurovision. Elnur Huseynov’s first attempt at Eurovision was not as impressive as this year. In the song ‘hour of the wolf’, Elnur has a unique voice, which he proved again in the Voice of Turkey, when he won the competition. So, Azerbaijan decided to send him as a competitor for Eurovision 2015. Even if the song lacks some instrumentation, Elnur makes it up with the help of his voice! Also, Azerbaijan’s successful history will contribute to a good ranking. The stage performance will affect the final results, but I see Elnur might struggle to get a result in the top 10. I am giving this song an 8.5/10.
