2015 JESC Reviews – F.Y.R Macedonia – Ivana & Magdalena – Pletenka

This year, F.Y.R Macedonia has chosen to send the girl duo of Ivana Petkovska and Magdalena Aleksovska with the song Pletenka, which translates to ‘Braid’ in English.

The song is very child friendly, with a very simple beat, and simple rhythm. At first, I thought the song was quite outdated, and slightly cheesy, but with a few listens, I’ve changed my opinion… slightly. It is definitely one of those songs that gets in your head, whether you like it or not. In terms of the actual song quality, I don’t think it’s great, but it’s just one of those fun songs, which is exactly what Junior Eurovision is all about – it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

My original worry was that the vocals were not going to stand up against the other acts of the year, but after hearing snippets of the rehearsal, that isn’t going to be too much of a problem. Now, the worry, especially after hearing some of the rehearsals, this song is going to be lost in a bunch of better songs. Not to say this song is horrible, because it’s not, it’s just not the best.

Overall, I’m going to give it a 5/10 because I think this is smack bang in the middle for me, and I think it will get a result smack bang in the middle somewhere.
