Romania Selects Ovidiu Anton!

On Sunday night, the final of Selectia Nationala took place in Baia Mare in Romania, where the act to represent the nation was decided by the Romanian public. Over 90 songs were submitted to the public broadcaster TVR, which was reduced down to 12 for the national final. There was a semi-final on Friday, where six acts were eliminated, leaving six acts to compete again in the final.

The six acts competing were:

  • Ovidiu Anton

  • Vanotek ft. The Code and Georgian

  • Florena

  • Dream Walkers

  • Mihai

  • Doru Todorut ft. Irina Baiant

The show was opened by Paula Seling, who has participated twice in Eurovision (2010 and 2014). Other Eurovision acts to take to the stage were Cezar, with a cover of Rise Like a Phoenix, as well as the 2016 representative for Moldova, Lidia Isac with her song Falling Stars.

With all the incredible performances over, it was then time to reveal the voting. This year, it was 100% televote, and the public of Romania had decided that it would be Ovidiu Anton who would fly the flag for Romania in Stockholm in May. The song he will be singing is called Moment of Silence, and can be described as a rock ballad. This was Ovidiu’s 5th time competing in the national final, and finally, he succeeded.
