Belgium: Blanche Officially Releases City Lights

For months now, we’ve known that Belgium will be represented by Blanche, the stage name for Ellie Delvaux. Now, the song that she will be performing at Eurovision has been released by Belgian broadcaster RTBF, although similar to many of the other internally selected acts, the song was leaked ahead of time.

Blanche is only 17 years old, and has previously participated in the fifth season of the Voice Belgium. She was internally selected by RTBF, and over the months has been writing City Lights alongside Pierre Dumoulin, the lead singer of the group Roscoe. The group won the Octave Award for Best Album of the Year in 2012 and 2015, and now, Pierre might rack up another award, the coveted Eurovision title with Blanche behind the microphone.

Belgium features two national broadcasters RTBF and VRT who take turns in choosing who will represent the nation at Eurovision. The last act that RTBF chose was Loïc Nottet with the song Rhythm Inside which placed 4th in 2015. Even in 2016, Belgium placed 10th, so they are finally finding their modern groove at Eurovision after many years of less desirable results.
