This year, Russia used the format of a national final to decide who would represent the nation at Junior Eurovision later this year. A total of 16 performers took part in the show, however one triumphed above the rest, and that was 14 year old Sofia Fisenko!
The song that Sofia will sing at the contest in November is called Zhivaya Voda, which means Living Water. The song was chosen through a combination of a professional jury vote, and an internet vote. The result of the show was announced by Philipp Kirkorov, who was a co-writer of this years’ Russian entry in Eurovision, You are the Only One.
Sofia comes from the city of Novomoskovsk, and as mentioned before, is only 14 years old! After she won, she said, ‘I am very pleased I won and it’s like a fairy-tale at the moment. I sang a song Living Water, which reveals what takes place in the soul and mind of a teenager when they grow older. As I am also a representative of the younger generation, I know that very well. I am really hoping for strong support from friends and fans!’
Since 2005, Russia has taken place in Junior Eurovision, and only a year later, took their first win with the Tolmachevy Sisters, who you may also recognise from Eurovision 2014. The sisters, back in 2006, won Junior Eurovision with the song Vesenniy Jazz. Then in 2014, they performed the song Shine.
