Estonia: Two former Eurovision participants join forces for 2017!

The final of Eesti Laul took place this weekend, where a total of 10 participants took place all hoping to reach the top spot and go on to represent Estonia at Eurovision this year. The show featured all 10 acts, which then faced the voters, and then a superfinal featuring the top 3 acts. Another round of voting chose the winner from those top 3.

The 10 acts who competed were:

  1. Liis Lemsalu – Keep Running

  2. Koit Toome & Laura – Verona

  3. Whogaux & Karl-Kristjan feat. Maian – Have You Now

  4. Lenna Kuurmaa – Slingshot

  5. Daniel Levi – All I Need

  6. Elina Born – In or Out

  7. Ivo Linna – Suur loterii

  8. Rasmus Rändvee – This Love

  9. Ariadne – Feel Me Now

  10. Kerli – Spirit Animal

The top 3 acts were:

  • Koit Toome & Laura – Verona

  • Kerli – Spirit Animal

  • Rasmus Rändvee – This Love

With 55% of the vote, Koit Toome and Laura will be heading to Kyiv with the song Verona! This is not the first time both of these artists have performed at Eurovision. Koit Toome formerly represented Estonia in 1998 with the song Mere Lapsed, which came 12th. Since then, he has had a successful career both on stage and in television. Laura has also participated in Eurovision, and interestingly, when she participated, the contest was also hosted in Kyiv, so now she will be returning once again. In 2005, she was a part of the group Suntribe with the song Let’s Get Loud. She has since participated in the Estonian national final numerous times, including last year with the song Supersonic, which put her in 2nd place, just missing out on representing Estonia again.
