Russia confirms their Eurovision act: Julia Samoylova to Kyiv!

With most of the 2017 songs now selected, one of the countries who was particularly quiet over the national final season was Russia, however now, we have confirmation that they will indeed be participating at Eurovision this year, and that Julia Samoylova will be flying the flag in Kyiv.

Julia was selected internally by the Russian delegation due to the fact that she ‘is unlike any other singer, she is a charming young lady and a seasoned contestant’, said the Head of the Russian Delegation Yuri Aksyuta. The song that she will be singing is called Flame is Burning, and was made in cooperation with Leonid Gutkin, who was part of the Russian team in 2013 with Dina Garipova and in 2015 with Polina Gagarina.

Julia was born in April 1989 in Ukhta, Russia, and has grown up to be a singer, composer and music writer. She has also taken part in a number of music contests, including the X Factor in Russia in 2013, where she was a finalist. The young singer has also won the Alla Pugacheva’s Golden Star Award, and then in 2014 she performed the song Together at the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Paralympics in 2014 in Sochi.
