For the last three years, Latvia has been using the national final format of Supernova, which has achieved varied amounts of success at Eurovision. This year they are continuing to use Supernova, and we now know who will be participating, and when the shows will begin!
The national selection will feature three semi-finals with seven acts competing in each semi-final. The shows will begin on Saturday the 3rd of February, which has changed from previous years as the shows were broadcasted on a Sunday, rather than Saturday. The shows will then continue each Saturday until the final, which will be on the 24th of February. In the semi-finals, only two songs will qualify to the final each time, and so the final will feature just 6 artists.
The process for Supernova this year began with a song submission, and from there, an online vote was held for the 63 entries to help decide which acts should be presented live in front of a panel. From the 30, a total of 21 songs were selected to take part in the televised rounds.
Here are the finalists:
Agnese Stengrevics – You Are My World
Liene Greifāne – Walk the Talk
MIONIA – You

Within the list we’ve got four time Supernova participant Markus Riva, but there’s also the return of Aminata as a songwriter. She brought success to Latvia as a singer back in 2015, but also as a songwriter in 2016, and now she’s back as part of the writing team of What I Had With You, performed by Ed Rallidae.
