For the duration of the actual World Cup, some of the best Eurovision artists old and new will be battling it out in a series of matches that mirror the World Cup itself. By the end, we will know the first winner of our Eurovision World Cup!
On each competition day of the World Cup, all of the matches for that day will be posted here on Eurovision Union. For a full 24 hours, a poll will be open for each match and it will be up to you to pick which of the representative songs will win the match.
It’s the second but final day of the quarterfinals, and we have the last two matches for this round today. The winners of these two matches will compete against the winners of yesterday’s matches in the semi-finals! We are getting to the pointy end of the competition, but it’s up to YOU to keep those votes coming in for your favourites! This match is between Sweden and the United Kingdom!
Today’s competitors:
If we look at wins at Eurovision, it’s very clear that Sweden is one of the most successful nations at the contest, having won the contest a total of six times. With that said, we had to pick just one representative for Sweden in our Eurovision World Cup, and it was certainly a tough choice. In the end we picked one of our most iconic winners, and that’s Loreen with Euphoria which won in 2012.
The United Kingdom have participated at Eurovision an incredible 61 times, after making their debut in 1957. The nation didn’t participate in 1958, but since then participated each and every year of the contest. They have been quite successful too, having come 2nd a record number of times with 15 runner-up’s. They have also won an impressive 5 times, which made it difficult to choose a Eurovision World Cup representative! In the end, we decided on the most recent entry which is Love Shine a Light performed by Katrina and the Waves.
