It has been announced that Dan Bittman will not be competing in the upcoming Romanian national selection due to a clash of schedules. Dan has represented Romania at Eurovision before, with this year marking 25 years since his appearance which was also the nation’s debut appearance at Eurovision.
The artist announced his withdrawal from the competition on Facebook, saying,
My dear, I write here to a Happy New Year with health and fulfilment, but also to let you know that I am unfortunately unable to participate in the Eurovision 2019 competition because during the semifinals I am leaving the country, which makes me impossible presence in the contest.
I am sincerely sorry because it would have been a return 25 years after Romania’s first participation in Eurovision, a unique fact in the history of this competition. I am convinced that it is best for our country to be represented by young artists and very talented people who have enjoyed us for years and who have to be supported with all their love. Thank you for understanding.
It is unsure whether the Romanian broadcaster TVR will replace Dan Bittman, or whether they will move forward with the participants already selected for the semi-finals. The semi-finals will take place in Arad and Iași on the 20th and 27th of January respectively, with the final taking place in February.
