After an internal selection for Eurovision 2020, the Head of Delegation for France, Alexandra Redde-Amiel has now announced that the nation will return to a national selection for Eurovision 2021.
The show will be produced by France Télévisions, and hosted by Stéphane Bern. He is a popular figure in French media, but has also been the French commentator at Eurovision since 2015, and also for Junior Eurovision, upon the nation’s return in 2018.
Due to the cancellation of Eurovision 2020, internally selected artist Tom Leeb didn’t get to perform at Eurovision, however he announced previously that he will not be representing France at Eurovision 2021. When discussing the plans for 2021, Alexandra Redde-Amiel said,
“You have to look at it in context. Tom Leeb was selected internally. Covid-19 came along and Eurovision was cancelled. Eurovision is one of our strongest brands. We can’t let the public go another year without it. We spoke with Tom and we decided to let the public get behind Eurovision once more by creating ‘Eurovision France, c’est vous qui décidez’”
More details about the competition will be released in the coming months.
