There were a few technical issues while watching the Swedish rehearsal (the perks of working from home…) however from what we did see, Sweden cements their place as a finalist. The staging of the Swedish entry, Voices, is very similar to the national final but slightly more elevated. Tusse is in a red outfit that pops on camera, and is super stylish. There’s definitely a similarity with his Melodifestivalen outfit, but more unique.
Tusse isn’t solo on stage, with backing dancers adding support to the staging. The focus is always on Tusse, as the backing dancers are wearing black. The dancers add a level on dynamism that is certainly needed for this performance, and the backing screens really help with that as well. There’s a lot of red and gold in terms of the lighting, but there’s also a lot of darkness in this performance.
Tusse recently had surgery on his vocal cords, but considering, he sounded fairly strong. I think by the semi-final he will be in a better position, but realistically it was far from a bad vocal performance.
