Melodifestivalen 2022 Host and Host Cities Revealed

Swedish broadcaster SVT have now revealed more details about the upcoming edition of Melodifestivalen, including the host of the shows and where they will be held.

Former participant Oscar Zia will host the 2022 edition of Melodifestivalen. He previously participated in 2013 as a backing singer for Behrang Miri, and in the following year he participated with the song ‘Yes We Can’. In 2016, he competed with the song ‘Human’, finishing in second place in the final.

This is not the first time hosting the contest, as he was one of the co-hosts in the second semi-final of Melodifestivalen in 2021 alongside Christer Björkman and Anis Don Demina.

Speaking about his upcoming duty, Oscar said, ‘It obviously feels like an honorable assignment – suddenly I’m in line after Kristian Luuk, Petra Mede and Gina Dirawi. I have watched Melodifestivalen since I was little. The whole family would watch and no one was allowed to talk. I did not want to miss a second! I am very excited to go on tour and I will do my best to lead the viewers through this party’

He also revealed that there will likely be some guest hosts throughout the contest.

The host cities of the shows were also announced. In 2021, the contest was held solely in Stockholm and with no audience due to the pandemic. If the public health situation allows, the host cities will be as follows:

  • Semi-Final 1: Malmö – Malmö Arena (February 5)
  • Semi-Final 2: Gothenburg – Scandinavium (Feburary 12)
  • Semi-Final 3: Linköping – Saab Arena (February 19)
  • Semi-Final 4: Lidköping – Sparbanken Arena (February 26)
  • Andra Chansen: Örnsköldsvik – Hägglunds Arena (March 5)
  • Final: Stockholm – Friends Arena (March 12)

The competing entries are likely to be released before the end of the year. Who do you want to see compete in the next edition of Melodifestivalen?
