Azerbaijan will once again select their Eurovision entrant through an internal selection. The broadcaster received over 200 songs, many of which came from international songwriters and composers.
Despite a number of songs submitted from outside of Azerbaijan, Head of Delegation Vasif Mammadov explained that the broadcaster will preference local composers.
“Our goal and desire with this is to have local composer’s music featured in the competition. Based on the selection process, if local and foreign songs meet the same criteria, we will prefer the local song. That is, we really want the music of Azerbaijani composers to be played in the competition. Let’s demonstrate that we also have talented composers. I hope this can serve as a stimulus for years to come.”
According to the Head of Delegation, the representative is expected to be selected by the end of January.
