2015 JESC Review – Australia – Bella Paige – My Girls
As an Australian, I was so excited to hear about our participation in Junior Eurovision this year. Bella Paige, who participated in the Voice Kids will be Australia’s participant, and her song is called My Girls, penned by one of Australia’s biggest female voices, Delta Goodrem.
When I first heard the song, I really didn’t like it. The song is growing on me, and I think her voice is absolutely fabulous, but there’s still something that just doesn’t sit right with me. Considering Delta contributed the song, I’m really confused and disappointed by the lyrics of the song. They just don’t make sense to me – it’s like a bunch of sub-plots within the one song, especially during the verses. The chorus is awesome – it’s punchy and catchy, which is great, especially for the recap.
Similar to when Guy Sebastian performed, I sense Australia will do well just through novelty factor, but looking at other reviews of the song, Europe seems to be liking it, so maybe we do have a chance of winning. As patriotic as I am to my home country, it’s not my favourite song, and I would prefer others to win over this song, but I would still love for Australia to receive a high place on the night.
Overall, this definitely isn’t my favourite, and I’m going to give it a 7/10.
