2015 Reviews – Greece – Maria-Elena Kyriakou – One Last Breath
Today we look at the Greek song, One Last Breath. I think this year, Greece has chosen a very safe song, and I think it’s one of the first times Greece has chosen a song without traditional, ethnic elements. It’s interesting to see that the video on the official Eurovision.tv youtube page has (while I’m writing this) less than 200,000 views, which in comparison with other songs from this year, is very very small.
Now, let’s look at the song itself. Like I said, it’s a very safe song. It’s a simple ballad, which for some, might be too simple. I don’t think it’s as memorable as previous Greek entries, as it doesn’t have a strong hook. I think the performance is great, she can definitely sing it live, which is good news for the semi-final performance. I’m quite certain it will qualify to the final, especially because it’s Greece, and also, I think the first semi-final is weaker than the second. In the final, I actually think this song could go either way, it might end up in the top 5, or it might flop, I really can’t pick it, especially when we consider how many good ballads there are this year. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see!
I’m giving the song a 7/10, just because it has grown on me a lot in recent weeks.
