2015 Reviews – Hungary – Boggie – Wars For Nothing

Oh Hungary. What have you done!? There were so many great songs in the national final, and yet I’m stuck reviewing this song! Before I give my (brutal) review, I do want to say that I think the song has a great message. Saying that, I still have an opinion on the song itself, and unfortunately this is not the song for me.

I unfortunately think this song is really bland, and to write this review, I had to force myself to listen to the whole song – something I hadn’t yet done. I really can’t see myself warming up to this song, there just isn’t anything about it that is appealing to me. In some ways, I think the lyrics are so focused on the message and being explicit about the message, that it compromises the melody. Her vocals are fine, but in that first verse, especially, I can’t help but be distracted by other things, there’s just nothing keeping me focused on the song.

From a musical perspective, I don’t want to see this song in the final, but I do recognise that the message of the song might be enough to get it through. Taking all that into consideration, I’m going to (somewhat controversially) give this song a 2/10. Sorry Hungary!
