Each week, Eurovision Union is specially curating a playlist for you, featuring songs recently released by some of our favourite Eurovision or national final stars, new and old. This week, we’ve been inspired by all the national finals happening at the moment, and there’s certainly a lot!
Listen to the playlist here:
First up just has to be the surprise announcement of the week, and that was France with their upcoming talent Alma with the song that will be going to Eurovision. It’s called Requiem, and so far it’s getting a lot of positivity, so time will tell how it performs at Eurovision!
Sanremo is one of the biggest and most loved national finals, and it gives way to the artist who will represent Italy at Eurovision. Two of the Big Artists we are loving from this year’s competition were Clementino with Ragazzi Fuori as well as Michele Bravi with Il Diario Degli Errori. Also from Sanremo is the winner of the Newcomers section, Lele, who’s giving off Marco Mengoni vibes, and that can only be a good thing.
Hungary is close to finishing their national final selection process, and as A Dal continues, there are more songs we are beginning to really love. One is Origo, which has an incredible folk/gypsy feel about it, and would definitely make it stand out come Eurovision time if it were to win in the final. Spoon 21 have now been knocked out of the competition in the semi-final stage, however their song is definitely not out of our heads just yet.
The Baltics have a good representation this week with Franco Franco from Latvia, who have made it through the first round of Supernova. Also from Latvia is Musiqq, who represented the nation back in 2011. They’ve just released a new song called Mans Ēdenes Dārz which has a modern dance feel about it. Over in Lithuania, we’ve got the newest release from two time Eurovision participant Donny Montell, called Screw Me Up.
Scandinavia are once again dominating in the new music realm. Starting in Finland, we have a new track from Sandhja called We Go On, as well as one of my most memorable past UMK performers Stig with the song Roy Orbison.
From neighbours Sweden, we’ve once again got a song by Loreen, who is just a delight to listen to. While we wait for her Melfest song, we’ve got Paper Light here on the playlist. We’ve also got Lisa Ajax with My Heart Wants Me Dead. She’s just participated in the second Melfest semi with the song I Don’t Give A which is bound to be a popular song regardless of whether she takes out the Melfest win or not. Also from Melodifestivalen is Adrijana, who was unfortunately knocked out in the first semi with the song Amare. Last from Sweden we have another song from Mr Zelmerlow himself, this time around it’s the song Hanging On To Nothing.
Denmark and Norway aren’t forgotten here, with Soluna Samay from Denmark with the song Golden, which was released late last year. Carl Espen, aka, the Norwegian teddy bear also made the playlist with the song Holding On, which once again shows off his delicate but powerful voice.
Tell us which songs you enjoyed from our playlist, and which songs you would love to see in next week’s playlist! Make sure to follow us on Spotify to keep up with our weekly playlists, and of course Twitter and Facebook to chat with us and other Eurovision fans!
