A few weeks back, we reported on the updates regarding next year’s Eurovision Choir of the Year. It had been decided that Sweden will host the contest in Gothenburg, however now we know that the Swedish broadcaster responsible for Sweden’s Eurovision participation, SVT, will not be participating in Choir of the Year.
The Swedish broadcaster confirmed with fellow Eurovision website Eurovoix that they will not be participating in the contest, despite being held in Sweden. Currently, SVT participates in three of the events as part of the Eurovision Family of Events, including Eurovision itself, as well as Eurovision Young Dancers and Young Musicians. Fellow broadcaster TV4 have also been involved in the Eurovision Family of Events, having participated in the Eurovision Dance Contest and Junior Eurovision. It is still unclear if TV4 will act as the host broadcaster for Eurovision Choir of the Year next year.
Two nations are currently confirmed for Eurovision Choir of the Year 2019, which are Romania and Wales. The deadline for nations to express their interest in participation is the 30th of September, and we can expect to know a more complete list by the end of October.
The competition will be held on the 3rd of August 2019.
