Eurovision 2019: Joci Pápai returns for Hungary!

The national selection in Hungary has now concluded, with the Hungarian representative for the upcoming edition of Eurovision decided.

Over the last 5 weeks, a total of 30 competing acts were reduced down to just 8 finalists who took to the stage for the last time in the hopes of becoming the next Hungarian Eurovision entrant. Here is the full list of participants:

  • The Middletonz – Roses
  • Gergő Oláh – Hozzád bújnék
  • Bogi Nagy – Holnap
  • Fatal Error – Kulcs
  • Joci Pápai – Az én apám
  • Gergő Szekér – Madár, repülj!
  • Acoustic Planet – Nyári zápor
  • Bence Vavra – Szótlanság

The competition took place over two rounds of voting. In the first round, the jurors announced their scores after each of the performances with each juror giving 10, 8, 6 and 4 points to their top 4 entries. The four entries with the highest scores would then continue to the next round.

Here are the Top 4 in order of points:

  • Joci Pápai – Az én apám (26 points)
  • Acoustic Planet – Nyári zápor (22 points)
  • Bence Vavra – Szótlanság (20 points)
  • Bogi Nagy – Holnap (16 points)

The second round of voting was public voting, and from that it was decided that Joci Pápai would be returning to Eurovision with the song Az én apám. Joci previously won A Dal back in 2017, and represented Hungary at Eurovision with the song Origo which finished 8th in the Grand Final.
