Azerbaijan selects Chingiz with the ‘Truth’

Azerbaijan remained fairly quiet throughout the national final season, however the broadcaster Ictimai has now revealed that Chingiz will represent the nation with the song ‘Truth.’

The national selection this year took place internally, however over 350 entries were submitted to the broadcaster. The song that stood out to the broadcaster was Truth, which was written by Bulgarian-Austrian songwriter Borislav Milanov who has previously worked on a range of Eurovision songs.

The style of song is not the usual style for Chingiz who performs more flamenco inspired compositions. Despite that, songwriter Borislav Milanov was confident that Chingiz could perform the song well, saying,

‘Initially, I was a little nervous about how Chingiz would perform the song, since he comes from a different musical background. But meeting him totally changed my mind. He’s so passionate about music and his own culture. We even added some unique elements of traditional Azerbaijani music, which worked brilliantly to make the song an authentic fusion of Azerbaijan and the West’

Chingiz was born in Moscow, however moved to Azerbaijan at the age of six. As a young boy he learnt to play guitar and started composing his own music. He moved to the nation’s capital Baku at the age of 13, where he was invited to participate in the Azerbaijani version of Pop Idol which he eventually won.
