Former Eurovision and National Final stars take on Sommarkrysset!

During the summer season, Sweden embraces the good weather, and the good tunes in various televised summer festivals. One of those festivals is Sommarkrysset, which is broadcast from the Gröna Lund amusement park in the nation’s capital, Stockholm. The program, which first began in 2005, features a range of famous artists who perform in front of a live audience, whilst the viewers at home have a chance of winning money throughout the broadcast.

This year saw a number of former Melodifestivalen and Eurovision artists take place in the festival, so we’re picking out some of our favourite performances. The festival began on the 10th of June, and the final show will take place on the 19th of August – with the last show to feature former Melfest and Eurovision stars Eric Saade and Nano! Since we don’t want to neglect their performances, we’ll update this post as their performances become available!

Let’s start with the first show, which featured Charlotte Perrelli, who has participated in Eurovision twice now, with her first appearance at Eurovision eventuating in a win with the song Take Me To Your Heaven. She returned in 2008 with the song Hero, and has since participated in Melodifestivalen a few times, including in 2017 where she participated with the song Mitt Liv. At Sommarkrysset, she proved she still hasn’t lost her touch. Although her musical style has changed since her Eurovision days, she’s still very much a gem of the Swedish music scene. Here’s her performance of Spår i sanden.

Although Nano is due to make an appearance on the last show of the season later this week, he’s already performed in the first week – he’s in high demand! In the first week, he performed his Melodifestivalen 2017 tune, Hold On.

Moving on to the second show, where two former Eurovision stars took to the stage to perform. We’ll start with Robin Stjernberg, who joined Niello on the super catchy track Sista Ordet. It has been one of our favourite tracks over the summer, so we were delighted to see them perform live on stage!

Former Eurovision performer Martin Stenmarck also took to the Sommarkrysset stage. Martin performed at Eurovision back in 2005, and although his performance didn’t send Sweden to the top 10, he has created his own success within Sweden. This time around, he performed the song Ingen Annan.

Week three saw a very special guest, namely Margaret from Poland! She dazzled Eurovision fans worldwide when she performed her song Cool Me Down in the national final, and although she didn’t make it to Eurovision, she still remained in the spotlight. A little while ago, she released the song What You Do, which she performed at the festival, as well as her 2016 national final song Cool Me Down.

Also featured on the third show was Anton Ewald, the two time Melodifestivalen star, and one of our personal favourites. We recently posted about his recent release L.I.L.Y, and before that with his track Devil, both of which we’re loving! At Sommarkrysset, he performed his most recent release, L.I.L.Y!

The following show, another former Melodifestivalen star took to the stage. Mariette impressed voters this year, with a 4th place finish with the song A Million Years. She also recently released a track called Louder, and she performed both songs at the festival!

We’re at the 15th of July, where we saw one of the most promising Swedish stars. Benjamin Ingrosso was part of this year’s Melodifestivalen, with the song Good Lovin’ which instantly impressed us. Since then, he’s released the song Do You Think About Me, another cracking song. He performed his latest single at the festival!

The following show, we saw Jon Henrik Fjāllgren take to the stage with the song Bovtse Eatnamisnie. Jon Henrik, the Colombian Swedish artist is known for his traditional Joik music, the form of song of the Sami people. Check out his performance here:

Also featured in the same week was the trio Dolly Style. They’ve participated at Melodifestivalen a couple of times now, with both entries making it to the second change rounds. Over the years they’ve changed line up a couple of times, but their music still remains that bubblegum pop we love to love. At the show, they performed their recent track Bye Bye Bby Boo.

The final performers included former Eurovision participant Eric Saade, who performed his latest single Another Week:

Nano also made another appearance at the festival to sing the song One:
